Ninety-three more women have accused former University of Southern California gynecologist George Tyndall of sexual misconduct in two new lawsuits filed against the doctor and the school, according to their lawyer. The former students have came forward with allegations against Tyndall including sexual assault and harassment, CNN reports. They also accused USC of disregarding complaints about the longtime doctor, who worked as the only full-time gynecologist at the university’s health clinic for 30 years until he retired in 2017. About 20 women appeared at a news conference Thursday to announce the new lawsuits, the Associated Press reports.
Acuzațiile noi și contextul istoric
“I am part of an accidental sisterhood of hundreds of women because the university we love betrayed our trust,” said Dana Loewy, who alleges that Tyndall assaulted her in 1983. The women allege that they were abused and molested by Tyndall during routine medical appointments at the university health center. Some said Tyndall made racist and disparaging remarks, showed them pictures of genitals or asked to photograph them under the guise of “research.”
Tyndall has denied the allegations, and a statement from his lawyer claimed that his examinations “were for the stated medical purpose,” according to CNN. The new lawsuits follow accusations against Tyndall by more than 50 other women in July. A total of some 500 women have lodged complaints against Tyndall dating back to 1988, according to the AP. Tyndall’s medical license was reportedly suspended in August. Former USC President C. L. Max Nikias stepped down the same month in the wake of the allegations.
Reacții legale și reacția autorităților
Attorney John Manly called on California to investigate USC over the new allegations. He also individually criticized some members of USC’s Board of Trustees for failing to speak out about the case. “They haven’t said a word. Not one,” Manly said. “All these women: 500. You’re on the board. University of Southern California.”

Povestea de peste ani la USC
A former University of Southern California campus gynecologist has been arrested and charged with sexually assaulting 16 female patients. Los Angeles police took George Tyndall, 72, into custody on Wednesday. More than 350 women have spoken out about their traumatic experiences as patients of Mr Tyndall during the year-long investigation. Mr Tyndall, who resigned from his role in 2017, has repeatedly denied all the allegations. The criminal complaint against Mr Tyndall accuses him of sexually penetrating or touching women - ranging in ages from 17 to 29 - while they were unconscious or while pretending it was for a medical purpose. The alleged incidents occurred between 2009 and 2016. He faces 29 felony counts for sexual assault and sexual battery by fraud, which could see him spend up to 53 years in prison.
Impactul asupra USC și dosare conexe
The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office says police have presented 134 crime reports regarding Mr Tyndall and their investigation is still ongoing. Mr Tyndall's attorneys said in a statement that their client acted in a medically appropriate fashion and would be "totally exonerated" in court. The case sparked discussions about patient safety, gynecology practices, and institutional accountability. USC has since implemented new investigation protocols and hired new female, board-certified physicians. The university has also agreed to pay $215m to some 17,000 former patients in a class-action settlement.

“This goes to the top at USC,” a declarat Allred în timpul unei conferințe de presă. “Dr. Tyndall continues to deny that he has engaged in any misconduct,” a spus avocatul său în trecut.
